Taking Action: Salty Life Crew Visits Overcoming Faith Schools in Kenya

This year, members of the Salty Life Crew had the incredible opportunity to visit the three Overcoming Faith Schools (OFS) in Kenya—Kakamega, Bunyore, and Nambale. While the visit was filled with joy, connection, and hope, it also revealed some heartbreaking realities. Many basic needs—things most of us take for granted—were still unmet.

At several campuses, there were not enough desks or tables for the children. Many students had to share bedding with other children, with minimal comfort. Incredibly, some schools didn’t even have utensils for meals. There was also a dire lack of janitorial and cleaning supplies, making it difficult to maintain safe, hygienic environments. On a larger scale, the campuses needed safer kitchens and improved landscaping to prevent flooding and erosion during Kenya’s heavy rainy seasons.

Thanks to your continued support and generosity, things are starting to change.

Since our visit:

  • All three campuses—Kakamega, Bunyore, and Nambale—have received new kitchen equipment, making the spaces less smoky, cleaner, and more functional for daily meal prep.

  • Road repairs and landscaping improvements have been completed at the Bunyore and Nambale campuses, creating safer access and reducing flooding risks.

  • New janitorial and cleaning supplies were delivered to all three schools, helping improve sanitation and overall health for the children and staff.

But that’s not all. The Salty Life Foundation has also stepped in to support two courageous children facing severe medical challenges:

  • A third-grade boy, born with proximal muscular dystrophy, and a first-grade girl who has suffered repeated episodes of fainting that have now affected her ability to walk.

  • These children have already made three trips to St. Luke's Orthopedic Hospital and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, where they’ve undergone MRIs and are now awaiting genetic testing and a surgical review.

Our work is far from done—but every step forward is a testament to the power of compassion, faith, and community. Together, we are rewriting the stories of these children and their schools.

Thank you for being part of the Salty Life mission. Let’s keep making waves.
