Salty Life Foundation: Partnering with Overcoming Faith Schools in Kenya
At Salty Life Foundation, we are committed to making a meaningful impact in the lives of vulnerable children. We are currently partnering with Overcoming Faith Schools (OFS) in Kenya, which serve approximately 1,000 orphaned children across three locations:
-
Kakamega Overcoming Faith School – Kakamega County
-
Bunyore Overcoming Faith School – Vihiga County
-
Nambale Overcoming Faith School – Busia County
To ensure transparency and accountability, we have a dedicated Salty Life representative on the ground, providing us with weekly reports on the realities these schools face. The most recent findings highlight critical areas in need of urgent intervention.
Key Challenges Identified:
Kakamega Overcoming Faith School
-
The school lacks a proper kitchen and storage facility. Meals are prepared using firewood in an inadequate space that lacks a designated serving area.
-
The current kitchen is located near learning classrooms, creating health risks such as smoke inhalation, noise pollution, and fire hazards.
-
The school’s landscape is severely eroded due to its sloped terrain, leading to degraded fields and poor drainage.
Bunyore & Nambale Overcoming Faith Schools
-
Both schools have semi-permanent kitchen structures made of iron sheets, with firewood being the primary cooking method.
-
The kitchens are located too close to the washrooms, posing contamination and air pollution risks.
-
Access roads from the main highways to the schools are in poor condition, making transportation difficult, especially during heavy rains.
-
Due to increasing student enrollment, space is becoming a major challenge. Currently, young students in Playgroup, Primary Preparatory 1 (PP1), and PP2 are using the church as a classroom.
-
There is no electricity connection at the schools, which hinders the implementation of Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and digital learning.
-
Additional classrooms are urgently needed for Grades 7, 8, and 9 to accommodate the growing student population.
-
A barbed wire fence is needed around Bunyore OFS for safety and security.
How You Can Help
The needs are urgent, and immediate action is required to ensure the safety, education, and well-being of these children. Our top priorities include:
-
Constructing proper kitchens and storage facilities
-
Improving sanitation and food safety conditions
-
Repairing feeder roads for safer school access
-
Expanding learning spaces to accommodate rising enrollment
-
Installing electricity for digital learning
-
Fencing the schools for security
We are actively assessing the most immediate needs and invite you to support our mission. Your contributions—whether financial, material, or through spreading awareness—will make a direct and lasting impact on the lives of these children.
Join us in providing these children with the safety, education, and resources they deserve. Every effort counts. Together, we can create a brighter future!
Our Contribution
Salty Life Foundation recently donated approximately $30,000 worth of textbooks and teachers' guides for all three schools to help meet government curriculum requirements. This investment ensures that students and educators have access to the necessary learning materials to support quality education.
